The Major Search Engines - Submit Manually
While there are literally thousands of smaller search engines and directories on the Internet, only a fraction of them really make a difference. Studies have shown that 98% or more of all engine/directory traffic is generated by the "Major Search Engines". The engines and directories we have listed below are the most popular and the most frequently used. A good listing here can potentially generate a large amount of traffic to your Web site. While there are always "up and comers", we listed what we feel are the most important.
If you're considering buying some type of automated submission software that submits to "hundreds or thousands" of engines DON'T DO IT! Not only will you waste your time worrying about all these "smaller" outfits but you'll also be risking you're placement within many of these "major" engines. In general, automated submission is becoming increasingly more frowned upon. Oh yes, and let's not forget to mention the fact that you'll be BOMBARDED with
auto responders thanking you for your submission or worse yet, trying to sell you some "Get Rich Quick" scheme or the latest hands-free butt
scratcher. The bottom line: Submit your home page URL to these engines and submit it manually.
